VASER
Precise Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction
I’m here at the AACS annual meeting in New Orleans. That’s the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery meeting. And I’m standing in front of the VASER Exhibit. VASER is an instrument that I’m using a lot in my practice now, and I just wanted to say a few words about it.
VASER, which stands for Vibration, Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance, V-A-S-E-R, is an instrument that’s a sound wave instrument. And these sound waves are distributed through a cannula into the fatty tissue when we’re doing liposuction. It is very, very helpful because it helps to break up fibrous tissue and the bonds between the fat much better than a regular liposuction instrument does. When it does that, it makes the aspiration of the fat easier. It also helps to break up the fibrous tissue. If you have thick tissue in there, this is the instrument to use. It really makes a huge difference in the outcome because sometimes liposuction can leave lumpy areas around and this will break up those areas so that the fat is easier aspirated.
It also makes the fat emulsified more so that it’s easier to do a fat transfer. This is felt to be better fat for fat transfer when we’re doing a fat transfer procedure than regular liposuction fat. And one of the aspects that I love the most about it is the fact that it helps with skin tightening. Once we do the aspiration of the fat, the skin gets to adhere to the body more and gives you better contours.
This is a very, very important instrument to have. It’s an excellent instrument. We have it in our practice. We encourage you to come in to try it out.
